The style of yoga I teach is called Hatha Yoga. Hatha yoga is a series of gentle poses and postures (asanas) that awaken subtle energy (called Kundalini) which creates balance throughout the body.
Hatha is translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” It’s the balance of the masculine-active, hot, sun and feminine —receptive, cool, moon that exisits in each of us.
My Approach to Teaching:
I take teaching very seriously. I prefer small classes with individualized attention. I want to know you in order to give you a safe and beneficial practice. We each come to yoga with our own life experiences; some of which may challenge us physically or mentally each and every day. I will take you through a serious of postures, each class, that are sequenced to meet you where you’re at and take you to a transformative place over time. You may come to class simply to become more flexible, and in that way, your practice is sure to deliver a big return, but your openness to stillness, and to what lies within the stillness, is how this practice will transform you. Hatha yoga asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which will help still the mind. When you still the mind, you still the body. When you still the body you will become more present. When you become more present you experience life in a new way.
If you’ve never done yoga before, or you’re a seasoned practitioner, you will be at home here. You’ll learn how to become aware of your needs and how to address and support yourself. The number one rule, here, is that there is no judgement. It is through our practice, that we’ll remember who we are and why we’re here!
What Will I Experience in this 75 min. Class?
Class begins with breathing exercises and meditation
Asana practice-includes standing postures, balances, seated postures, inversions and twists
We’ll end each class with Savasana-Relaxation
After class, you’re always invited to stay for some tea in the dining room!
Class Tips and Etiquette
Arrive Early Try to arrive 10 minutes early. This will allow you time to get the props you need, find a spot, and settle in.
Remove your shoes Help keep our practice area clean and dry. We practice without socks to prevent slipping. Special socks called Yogi Toes can be purchased online if you prefer to wear socks.
Sign-In There is a box located on the table that contains index cards. Please take a card and fill in your name, address, phone number and email. Payment can be made out to Luna Presence Yoga LLC or paid in cash. Exact change is appreciated. Take your card to your mat and Julie will collect them before each class.
Injuries Tell your instructor of any injuries, past surgeries or health conditions you have before class so she can offer modifications to help you enjoy the full yoga experience.
Talking Please greet friends and acquaintances quietly. Many people like to meditate or center themselves on their mats before the official opening of class. Once in the studio, sit or lay comfortably until class begins. Talking is permitted during class when it pertains to the practice.
Running Late You may enter the house after our opening 5-10 minute meditation. The curtains to the studio will open and you will know it is acceptable to enter. Please come in and quietly lay down your mat to begin.
Leaving Early is discouraged, but sometimes necessary. If you need to leave early, try to place yourself in a spot where you can slip out easily. The best time to do this is in a transition between poses or right before Savasana.
Perfume/lotion Please avoid wearing scented fragrances to class. Wearing lotion on hands or feet will cause you to slip on your mat.
Beverages Water is permitted in the studio if it is in a closed water bottle.
Community Please stay after each class for fresh, hot tea or ice water in the dining room. Catch up with friends and meet new people. Yoga is about connection, and this is perfect time to catch up and relax!
